Pet Spa History

Orrville Pet Spa and Resort, LLC, 2024

In 2004 there was a growing demand for boarding more dogs at the Orrville Veterinary Clinic. The kennel area within the Orrville Vet Clinic was very limited for boarding as the demand for hospitalized pets was growing. In that same year, premier boarding facilities were being built around Columbus, OH that offered multiple services, including daycare, boarding, and grooming. The owners of the Orrville Veterinary Clinic became interested in the concept of premier boarding and offering other related services to the boarding clients in a separate stand-alone facility. We visited several sites throughout the state and put our heads together and developed the current business model of the Orrville Pet Spa and Resort.

The Orrville Pet Spa and Resort campus first opened on November 19, 2004. The original building included room for 100 dogs for lodging, space for one groomer, and a small room that held about 10-15 dogs for daycare. Daycare started that first month with one dog. We had no idea what would ever become of this new concept of premier boarding and a daycare program. Doggy Daycare was unheard of in those days. Each year, over the past 10 years, the lodging and daycare has experienced significant growth. In less than ten years, we had outgrown our facilities to accommodate the increasing demands of the lodging, daycare, and spa services. When we originally built in 2004, we had allowed space and plans for an addition to double the size of our current facility. Due to increasing demands In November 2014, we broke ground for the 6600 sq ft addition to house our new Doggy Daycare Center. The new Doggy Daycare Center provided indoor and outdoor facilities to accommodate the increasing daycare crowd. We now had room for over 50-60 daycare dogs. We also added a new bathing and spa room to enhance the spa services. Our daycare staff plans off leash play time and activities for various groups of dogs throughout the day. The entire indoor lodging and daycare facility is climate controlled, with heated floors and fully air conditioned, for year around comfort. We also added an outdoor pavilion and splash area to take advantage of the beautiful weather in NE Ohio.

Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic in 2020 was detrimental to our business and we were forced to cease all operations and layoff all our staff. After 2 months the government policies allowed us to slowly reopen and a few of our staff were retained with government payroll protection programs. Our amazing team returned to work with enthusiasm as we very slowly regained our business. We continued to re-grow the lodging and daycare program. Slow steady growth worked the best to grow our business back to normal operations.

In 2023 we were fortunate to return to full staffing and full programming, back to the original program of pre-COVID. We added the Garden Villas to accommodate more premier lodging. We continue to upgrade the facility as we approach our 20^th anniversary.

The team at the Orrville Pet Spa and Resort is very thankful for the wonderful support of the Orrville and surrounding communities. We have a staff that truly cares for each pet as if it were their own. We are fortunate to be affiliated with Veterinary Wellness Partners, Inc, and the Orrville Veterinary Clinic Inc, an AAHA certified full service veterinary clinic in the adjoining building. The doctors from the Orrville Veterinary Clinic make regular visits to the facility and are immediately available for any consultation.
